Monocular Saccadic Pulse in Cerebellar Ataxia

Abstract
Saccadic intrusions refer to involuntary saccades interrupting visual fixation. Unless associated with ophthalmoplegia, saccadic intrusions are conjugate between eyes. A patient with adult-onset cerebellar ataxia showed uncommon monocular saccadic pulses. The patient showed monocular involuntary eye movements that consisted of adducting saccades followed by a slow glissadic return to the midposition without an interval. The velocities of the saccadic intrusions fell into the main sequence of horizontal saccades of normal subjective. The single saccadic pulses may be attributed to disordered cerebellar control over the saccadic gain adjustments and coordinated binocular movements, in combination with monocular pulse commands of the brainstem burst neurons due to pause cell dysfunction.
